Where to stay in Atlantic City – a neighborhood guide

TIME : 2016/2/24 10:32:21

Sunny morning strolls on the boardwalk, ritzy and glitzy evenings in the casinos: Atlantic City is a cosmopolitan blend of wholesome family leisure and nighttime entertainment. With beaches, piers and funfairs to boot, the city provides you with all the ingredients for a quintessential seaside holiday. From grand casino hotels in the city’s luminous core to colonial style charm in the Atlantic County area, digs come suited to every taste and budget.

Atlantic City Center

The bright lights and bustle of the city center is a sure bet for those looking to hit the jackpot during their stay. A favorite among sun worshipping families, here you’ll find shops and restaurants galore, as well as Atlantic City’s premier attractions. The famous boardwalk is home to many of these, stretching for miles along the glittering seafront.

Glassy high rises with ocean views dominate much of the hotel territory, with the mid-range options existing alongside the pricier and much more palatial casino hotels. Wrapped from head to toe in luxury, the upmarket establishments spoil well-heeled guests with every conceivable amenity, from spas to health clubs.

Absecon

Atlantic City’s neighbor to the west, the slower paced city of Absecon reclines next to the gentle waters of Absecon Bay. Here you’ll find America’s third tallest lighthouse, which at 171-feet high grants visitors picturesque views to the water. Comparatively cheaper than Atlantic City, it's a good choice for thrifty travelers.

The larger hotels in Absecon comprise of comfortably familiar chains, which come with plenty of frills despite the smaller price tags. Common creature comforts include complimentary breakfasts, satellite TV and all the essential mod cons.

Pleasantville

Pleasant by name and pleasant by nature, the peaceful city of Pleasantville is home to pretty colonial style neighborhoods and a friendly multicultural population. Six miles west of the sunbaked hijinks of Atlantic City, the small town atmosphere of Pleasantville makes for a sleepy retreat. With malls, shops, and restaurants aplenty, it’s a well equipped retreat, too.

Because Pleasantville is a little out of the loop, hotels come at budget prices, with a few steals along the Black Horse Pike too. Large chain hotels come with very standard amenities, but with so much to do a short drive into Atlantic City, you probably won’t even notice.

Ventnor City

Southwest of Atlantic City and a short drive away from Gillian’s Wonderland Pier, you’ll find the easy going ‘summer town’ of Ventnor City. Complete with boardwalks and golden sandy beaches, the popular pier reels in fishing enthusiasts, while the waves lure in surfers. With casual eateries and quaint shops, you won’t find much nightlife here – making it perfect for those who prefer a quieter stay by default.

Ventnor City is a cheaper alternative to Atlantic City, but not located too far out to be deemed obsolete. The small selection of accommodation consists of modest motels, homely B&Bs and well-equipped rental condos.
