Visitors interested in Hawaii's wartime history will want to visit the USS Arizona Memorial, which is located in Honolulu. This memorial has been built over the hull of the sunken battleship USS Arizona and commemorates the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Visitors can get here by taking either bus 20 or 42.
Featuring impressive ancient temples, royal grounds and burial sites, the Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park offers an important insight into the history and culture of Hawaii. Best reached by private transport, here visitors can gaze at carved-wood representations of ancient gods, and just off the natural lava steps is a good spot for snorkeling.
Meaning White Mountain, Mauna Kea is the highest peak in Hawaii and offers stunning views from the summit. Visitors will need their own transport to get here and can follow a hiking trail from the summit to explore the astronomy exhibitions at the Onizuka Center.
