Anheuser-Busch Brewery
Ballparks and beer go hand in hand, and St. Louis does both exceptionally well. It’s home to Anheuser Busch’s oldest and largest brewery, and you can visit for a behind-the-scenes tour. People of all ages can go on the tour to learn about the brewing process and the history of the brewery, and adults can also enjoy a tasting session at the end. It’s completely free, though it’s best to go early at the weekends, as tour places quickly fill up.
City Museum
The name might suggest a traditional institution preserving the local heritage and history, but St. Louis’ City Museum is anything but. More like a weird and wonderful funhouse, the museum building itself is worthy of attention, made of twisting, tangled, reclaimed materials. Once you’ve walked through a Bowhead whale and climbed a giant slinky on the first floor, you’ll be prepared for the Enchanted Caves, the performing circus, and the rope-swing skate park as you ascend. The hours slip by unnoticed, so you could easily spend a full day in this fantasyland.
Forest Park
Outsizing even New York’s Central Park, St. Louis’ Forest Park allows you to escape the rush of the city and breathe deeply. The park hosted the World’s Fair in 1904, and you can have your ‘Meet Me in St. Louis’ moment on the steps of the pavilion. Elsewhere in the park, you’ll discover St. Louis Zoo – a great place to take the family, and it has free admission. There are also numerous museums and a golf course, so explore at your leisure and enjoy.
