Hanauma Bay

Hanauma Bay is the island of Oahu’s best snorkeling spot and many locals will agree. The bay is curved in the shape of a ‘U’ forming it into a its own little cove protected from the heavy ocean currents, tides, and waves. It is that that makes Hanauma Bay perfect for snorkeling and diving. In 1967 the bay was declared a marine life preservation area and underwater park. The coral reef is still alive and flourishing with marine life and color.

Safety and Preservation
All visitors to Hanauma Bay are required to watch an educational video about the preservation of the reef.

• Feeding the fish or removing them from their natural habitat is prohibited.
• Alcoholic beverages are not allowed on park grounds.
• A lifeguard is on duty at all times.

Visitor Services

• Snorkel masks and fins can be rented on the beach.
• There are paved walkways to and from the beach as well as picnic facilities, a concession stand, restrooms and outdoor showers.
• The preserve has several hiking and walking trails on site.
• A gift shop is also located on the grounds.
• Wheelchair access and locker rentals are available as well.

Parking
While the parking lot at Hanauma Bay is quite large it fills up rather quickly. There is a US$1 fee to park in the lot and shuttles buses to and from the beach for an additional US$1.

Entry Fees
A US$5 entrance fee is charged for all persons visiting age 13 and older.
Children under 13 and residents of Hawaii enter free of charge.
Military personnel stationed in Hawaii enter free of charge.

Hours of Operation
October thru March, open 6am-6pm.
April thru September, open 6am-7pm.
Open Saturday all year long from 6m-10pm.
Closed on Tuesdays.
Preserve hours change often so its always smart to call ahead or go online.
