Puukohola Heiau is a massive temple built completely out of water-worn valley rocks from a valley past Hawi, moved there by a human chain stretching for miles.
The heiau is located next to Spencer Beach Park on the Kohala coast of the Big Island. There is a small parking area with a small visitor center that has information about the park.
To get to the best view of the Heiau itself you’ll have to take a short walk down a narrow cement path. I put my son in the stroller, because I knew it would be easier to get him up and down that way. Going down was fairly easy. This place is worth a look in my opinion. If you are here in Hawaii during whale season (December through May) the hill next to the heiau is a fantastic spot for whale watching.
