In addition to being a member of one of the hottest bands on the planet, Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz is also an avid gamer. So when asked to help with the unveiling of a Halo character set in wax for Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas, he jumped at the chance.
For those not familiar with the current state of video games, the Halo series is one of the most popular for the Xbox 360, and with the upcoming release of the newest game, Halo 3, the game is being honored with a display here on The Strip.
The life-sized figure of Halo‘s Master Chief stands at 7’2″ tall and weighs about 275 pounds. A total of 10 studio artists worked on the massive figure, dedicating an estimated 892 man-hours for the finalization of the stoic soldier. Total man-hours included 687 hours for sculpting, 168 hours for molding, and 37 hours for painting. Materials included over 1,000 pounds of clay.
A ceremony Saturday afternoon at Madame Tussauds unveiled the new figure to the public, with assistance from Wentz. This is the first time in the company’s 260 year history that they have decided to immortalize a computer gaming personality. To Wentz, however, the honor is a no-brainer.
“For me, the launch of Halo 3 will be the entertainment event of the year. It will be as big as or bigger than any of the summer’s movie blockbusters,” said the popular musician. “Master Chief is as much of a hero today as characters like Spiderman, Frodo and Luke Skywalker were for previous generations.”
