Tuscon's in-the-know nature lovers eagerly awaited the 2001 opening of Oracle State Park Center for Environmental Education, a quiet, 4,000-acre preserve in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. Now everyone else is catching on about Oracle's oak-dappled trails, stunning views, and the historic Kannally Ranch House. Traipse through the cool desert park, home to javelina and Cooper's hawks. Tour the Mediterranean-style house, then picnic on its broad veranda, with views of the mountains and San Pedro River Valley. Later, pull over in the sleepy, eclectic town of Oracle to explore its shops and galleries.
