WHERE: Kitt Peak is 55 miles southwest of Tucson. Take I-19 south to Ajo Way (exit 99), then go west on Ajo Way (which becomes State 86) to the Kitt Peak turnoff. The facility is 12 miles up a winding mountain road.
FYI: Regular visiting hours are 9-4. three-and-a-half-hour Nightly Observing Program runs Sep 1-Jul 15 (reserve ahead); meet at the visitor center 45 minutes before sunset (program times vary). Dress warmly: Kitt Peak sits at 6,875 feet and nights are chilly.
