You know how redecorating goes: Buy a new table lamp, and suddenly you notice that the wall color is all wrong and the carpet has frayed. Time for a serious redo. And so, after the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa added a luxurious Andalusian-inspired spa, the rest of the property begged for upgrades too.
Now a $70 million renovation has carried the spa's Spanish-Moorish architecture throughout the property, from lobby to new rooms and suites. Some rooms are clustered around garden courtyards; suites have terraces, dining areas, and kooky pass-through windows between the living room and bathtub. ("More Champagne, darling?" must be the idea.) Meanwhile, the inn's classic 1923 golf course has been reconfigured by flipping the front and back nines, so golfers finish on the two most spectacular holes. --JERRY CAMARILLO DUNN JR.
