Casino hopping along the Las Vegas Strip just got easier with the launch of the Las Vegas Monorail, which started running in March. Nine elevated trains now link the Las Vegas Convention Center to the MGM Grand and the Sahara, with four other stops in between.
For years, free trams have transported visitors between certain hotels ― the Mirage and Treasure Island, for example, or Mandalay Bay and the Excalibur. By contrast, the new monorail covers two-thirds of the Strip, completing a 4-mile trip in 14 minutes. (A short walk is required between the two systems.)
Future monorail plans call for extending the trains to the airport and to Fremont Street downtown. Planners hope the service will reduce congestion along the Strip. But the best part for travelers may be the final luxurious touch: All trains are air-conditioned. Now that sounds like cool cruising.
