Walk around the 8.8km seawall at Stanley Park, or delve into its forested interior.
Forget touristy and expensive Capilano Suspension Bridge; instead, head to Lynn Canyon Park nature reserve bridge – hanging 50m above the fast-flowing river, with an ecology centre nearby, it’s only a little lower than Capilano, but free!
Between June and August free tours of the historic Gastown area run from the steam clock at 2pm.
Watch a film being made on the streets of Vancouver, so big-screen-friendly it’s known as Hollywood North. Check out .bcfilmcommission.com for location tip-offs.
Try the 2.9km ‘Grouse Grind’ hike up Vancouver’s local mountain. The record is 25 minutes, but most hikers take about two hours.
Drink up the atmosphere and green tea at Chinatown’s open-air night market (May-Sept, Friday-Sunday, 6.30pm-11pm)
Witness the birth of BC’s salmon at Capilano Hatchery year-round, or leaping up through fish ladders Aug-Nov.
